Who We Are
Hands of Mercy Health Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing surgical and medical care to the people of Uganda. Founded in 2023 by Ianka Rodriguez, the project began after years of individual visits and mission trips by Rodriguez to Fort Portal, Uganda, in the western region of the country. During these visits she noticed a desperate need for medical attention especially in the pediatric population. She has since gathered a team of specialists with similar aspirations to change the lives of those in dire need.
The first trip was held in April 2023 and consisted of 2 American doctors and 1 medical student. It was led by Dr. Tito Beyeza, a local orthopedic surgeon who also serves as the Ugandan Minister of Health. The mission gained recognition and the support of His Royal Highness King Oyo and Her Majesty Queen Kemigisa of Tooro Kingdom. The mission was a success with 40 total operations completed in 3 days; 38 children and 2 adults.
Our Mission and Values
Physical disability can have an impact not only on the child, but also the mothers. Our mission is to create a world where all children have access to the resources they need to reach their full potential during each of their milestones. We believe that every child deserves a chance to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.
What We Do
Education – The foundation of good healthcare is to educate the people that already live there. We will start virtual educational lectures and conferences led by Dr. Joshua Ekladios, a fellowship trained Foot and Ankle Surgeon at the Florida Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Center.
Medical Missions – Every year there will be 2 trips. The September trip will mostly consist of general health evaluations. The April trip will be the Surgical camp. So far, we have established Lower Extremity Orthopedic specialists. Our next vision is to incorporate Dental, Ophthalmology and Plastic surgery.
Donations – During our first trip in April, our USA team donated medical supplies, school supplies, toys and clothing to children in schools, orphanages and local hospitals. Donations and fundraising are vital to our work.
What YOU Can Do
There are many ways to get involved with our non-profit, whether you want to volunteer your time, donate money, or become a partner in our mission. Every contribution helps us make a difference in the lives of those in need. We need YOUR support to help us continue providing vital resources and support to underprivileged children and their families in Uganda. Every donation counts, no matter how small.
